Laurie E. Barber

Laurie Barber is a member of Mulvaney, Kahan & Barry, LLP where she practices primarily in the areas of business and civil litigation, trusts, probates and Conservatorship proceedings. Ms. Barber has extensive experience in preparation and litigation of complex issues involving probates, trusts or Conservatorship proceedings. She acts as a court-appointed attorney on numerous probate matters, including dementia petitions. In addition, she has years of experience in civil litigation, including all phases of trial, settlement negotiations, discovery and trial preparation.

Over the years, Ms. Barber has handled numerous trials, arbitrations, settlement conferences and mediations. Prior to joining MKB, Ms. Barber was a partner along with her father, Luke R. Corbett, at the law firm of Lindley, Scales & Corbett for one year. Prior to that, Ms. Barber was a partner at the firm of Wright & L’Estrange where she practiced for 15 years.

Ms. Barber graduated from the University of San Diego Law School in 1990. During law school Ms. Barber worked on the Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues. While in law school, Ms. Barber clerked for the Honorable Justice Donald Work for the California Court of Appeal, Fourth District.

Prior to law school, Ms. Barber attended Occidental College and San Diego State University and received her Bachelors of Art in Economics in 1981.

Ms. Barber has been a Collaborator/Author on the "California Civil Discovery Practice," (Supp.) C.E.B. from 1991 through 2005. She also co-authored with her former partner an article entitled "Ex Parte Discovery Hearings in Coordinated Proceedings: The Wave of the Future," Cal. Litig., Vol. 16, No. 3, 2003. Ms. Barber has lectured in numerous programs for Lorman Education Services. Her presentations for Lorman have included selected discovery topics. In addition, she was a lecturer at a program entitled "With All Due Respect-Bias in Courts" (April, 2006) for the State Bar of California, Litigation section.

Since being admitted as an attorney, Ms. Barber has served on several bar committees including the State Bar of California, Executive committee of the Litigation section; San Diego Bar Association, Probate Manual, Sub-committee, and committees for the San Diego Lawyers Club. Ms. Barber is also a member of the American Inns of Court, Louis M. Welsh Chapter.
